James 2:1-26
Do ya get it?
Demonstrated Faith
Jesus’ Birth, life, ministry, arrest, death, burial, resurrection, Ascension, and Intercession for us:
Greatest actions of humility
Greatest actions of example
Greatest actions of selflessness
Life demonstrates what’s in you!
James 2:1-13
It is not acting, it is action
Salvation is a gift
Faith is gift
Love is a gift
Action is the response of the manifested,
The action of and to that which has been received.
Faith alone saves, but the Faith that saves is never alone; it is manifested evidence of the changed and changing life!
Ephesians 4:8–9
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Roman 12:3
For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and active.Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
The actions of faith
Vs. 2:15-16
Reach for Joy
Notice versus seen
Departed in peace, be warm, be filled.
In the exampled statement the able knew and understood the need and merely gave the consolation of depart in peace, and left them still longing to be warmed and filled.
That is the rude ministry of:
Be warm, be fed, be gone? Is that ministry?
We’re not called to the ministry of a sneeze!
Living faith versus dead faith
Vs. 2:17
Rrrr dead men tell no tales.
Dead Faith doesn’t either.
Faith evidence:
Faith looks to Jesus not to self
Faith is the word of God in us and through us
Faith is not word only but action
Does not need to be rewarded
Is grounded in the victory of the cross
Becomes a natural response
(It is a response of forgiveness and repentance through action)
Faith moves in the confidence of Jesus Christ, though we may not see, or have ability, it even moves when there is doubt.
“Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.“
Faith wants for others what it has for itself
Faith is more than words
Faith, just like love; does!
Faith is never idle.
Living faith has living work
Vs. 2:18-19
This is a WOW area!
James is saying my works are not Faith but my Faith is seen in/by the works.
You can’t see someone’s faith, you see their action of faith, through faith, by faith.
Even demons believed, but it didn’t count as Faith in God.
Believing Faith, the action of Faith is:
seeing,
saying,
sowing.
Philippians 2
Unity Through Humility
Therefore if there is any [a]consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Letnothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
The Humbled and Exalted Christ
5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it [b]robbery to be equal with God, 7 but [c]made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ isLord, to the glory of God the Father.
Light Bearers
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
14 Do all things without [d]complaining and disputing,[e] 15 that you may become blameless and [f]harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.
17 Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18 For the same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me.
James 2
1 My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. 2 For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, 3 and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, "You sit here in a good place," and say to the poor man, "You stand there," or, "Sit here at my footstool," 4 have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? 5 Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts? 7 Do they not blaspheme that noble name by which you are called?
8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well; 9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not murder." Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
