James 1:13-18 "Temptation"
Review James 1:1-12. God’s Trials Are Meant To Build Us Up, Mature Us Spiritually.

Oswald Chambers Quote: The fiery furnaces are there by God’s direct permission. It is misleading to imagine that we are developed in spite of our circumstances; we are developed because of them. It is mastery in circumstances that is needed, not mastery over them.
James 1:13-18. Temptation & Trials—same root word (peirazo), different context.
Four Items Regarding Temptation: What Causes Temptation (Jas.1:13-14); Consequences Of Choosing Temptation (Jas.1:15); Deception In Temptation (Jas.1:16-18); Our Response To Temptation (Jas.1:19-27).
#1 What Causes Temptation (Jas.1:13-14). 1 John 2:15-17; Gen.3:11-13. Blame shift.
The Real Cause Of Temptation Is Us (Jas.1:14). Starts In Our Mind. Desire; Enticed; Fishing Lure. Rom.7:17-20; James 4:1; Mark 7:18-23; Jas.4:7; Matt.4:1-11; Eph.6:12; 2 Chron.20:15.
#2 The Consequences Of Choosing Temptation (Jas.1:15). Death. Contrast Of Peirazo Usage (Jas.1:2-12, 13-14). Growth vs. Death (Rom.6:23). Gal.5:19-21; Col.3:5-11; 1 Cor.6:9-10.
The Progression Of Sin (Jas.1:14-15). Our Desire, Thoughts, Heart Lead To Action and Death. Enticed With “Small” Things, Insignificant Things Lead To A Downward Spiral. A Progression (Lev.13). Be Aware! The Enemy’s Tactics (1 John 2:16).
#3 The Deception In Temptation (Jas.1:16-18). A Command To Stop (Stop Being Deceived). God Does Not Want Us To Stumble.
The Opposite Is True (Jas.1:17). He Is The Father Of Lights. Creation: Gen.1:14; John 1:1-14; Ps.19:1. Messiah: 1 John 1:5; Rev.22:5; John 8:12; John 12:35-36; Ps.27:1.
There Is No Variation or Shadow Of Turning (Jas.1:17). Mal.3:6a; Heb.13:8, 1:10-12; Ps.102:27; 2 Tim.2:13. His Goodness Is Unchanging.
He Brought Us Forth; First fruits (Jas.1:18). First fruits=The Best Of His Creation.
