1 Peter 5

Protective instructions: 12 Directives

Casting all your cares upon Christ

“This is the True Grace of God in which you stand.“

1 Peter 5:5b

1. Submit yourselves to one another

2. Be clothed with humility

Qualifying statement:

“God resists the proud, but gives Grace to the humble.”

Therefore: A directive based on an imperative.

1 Peter 5:6

3. Humble yourselves under the mighty Hand of God

Dismissing reliance upon self, “The Upside Down Kingdom”

Esteeming others higher than yourself.

In this case it is esteeming The Mighty Hand of God

Christ-shaped humility. FROG=Fully Relying On God

Result:

That He may exalt you in “due time”

Vs.10 After:

The labor of suffering produces a 4-folded fruit

Opportune time: a season, a foreknown conclusion

1 Peter 5:7

4. Casting all your cares upon Him

For He cares for you

1 Peter 5:8-9

More exhortation of remaining steadfast

Be, Be, Resist, Steadfast, Knowing,

1 Peter 5:8

5. Be sober:

6. Be vigilant

Why?

Because your adversary the devil

Walks about, like a roaring lion

Seeking whom he may devour

1 Peter 5:9

7. Resist him…

How?

Steadfast in the faith

Knowing… that the same sufferings are experienced

By your brotherhood in the world.

We are not alone in this resistance

Peter was fully acquainted with trying to fight alone.

Even then he was not alone, for Jesus, had prayed for him

We are empowered by and through and with Christ Jesus through THE CROSS!

See Colossians 2

1 Peter 5:10: Called to Glory!!! •7 things of Glory

Pre-closing Exhortation prayer and encouragement:

A PRAYER of equipping insight regarding suffering:

Verse 10: This Prayer empowers and equips us by giving us insight to the results of the sufferings that we are enduring as we trust in the Lord steadfastly.

We are guided by the God of all grace

Who called us to His Eternal Glory

Accomplished through Jesus Christ

Though we may suffer for a while. A season, a due time

The glorious results of being steadfast in the Faith:

Will Himself (Holman Bible: Will personally: restore, established, strengthen, support.)

HCSB: Now the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will personally restore, establish, strengthen, and support you after you have suffered a little.

God as the Master Craftsman who mends what is torn, unites what is divided, trains what is immature, and fits His people—and the universe itself—for the fulfillment of His holy will.

Will Perfect you: God uses suffering to:

Prepare, mend, complete, equipped, fully trained, exactly fit, ro make ready, fully function.

Will Establish, Confirm you:

Will Strengthen you:

Will Settle, Establish you:

1 Peter 5:11

Exultation of the Lord: Glory, Dominion: forever and ever.

Amen

Final closing:

Encouraging words, reiterating, the reason for the letter, a few greetings and final instruction on brotherly love.

Lastly, a blessing of Peace for all who are in Christ Jesus

1 Peter 5:12-14

Closing salutations, encouragement, exhortation, and instruction of continuance in Love, and final blessing of Peace. Amen

Colossians 2

1 For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, 2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

4 Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words. 5 For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. 6 As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

RAISED WITH CHRIST JESUS EMPOWERED BU THE CROSS

8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. 11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

God has called us to His Eternal GLORY by Jesus Christ

It is the GLORY of the purified character

It is the GLORY of perfected humanity

It is the GLORY of complete victory

It is the GLORY of being honored by a king

It is the GLORY of reflecting the glory of God.

It is the GLORY of the immediate,

constant presence of God.

It is the GLORY of the enjoyment of God himself.

TO HIM BE THE GLORY IN THE DOMINION

FOREVER AND EVER. AMEN.
